It does, however, take a little skill! No matter the reason why you have decided to cook, it is still great to have this knowledge and skill. The following tips will ensure that you have a lifetime of deliciousness.
Season meat very sparingly to begin with and add more during the cooking process. It is important not to over-season foods such as hamburger, meatballs and other meat-based dishes. After adding your blend of seasonings, do not cook the entire portion of meat. A better option is to season the small piece and allow it to cook. You can then either leave as-is, or adjust your seasonings according to your tastes.
Do you feel you are being wasteful by discarding molded fruit? Can you actually save your fruit by cutting the part out that is rotten? Beware! Once a fruit goes rotten, there is no way to safely rescue a part of it. Throw half-rotten fruit away, because mold can go much deeper than your eyes can see; you can get very sick from eating food with mold.
People often use more apples in fall and winter, but they will spoil if not stored properly. Store apples in a plastic bag in a cool, dry location to keep them fresher longer. You’ll want to monitor them, though, because if one goes bad, it can cause the all the others to spoil also.
Chicken Stock
When you make chicken stock make as much as you can. Making more than you need in a large pot can allow you to have some left over to store in the freezer for later use. Good homemade chicken stock is a wonderful base in soups, stews, casseroles and more. Freeze premeasured amounts of your stock in freezer proof containers or bags when cool.
For better seasoning results, use smaller applications of seasoning at frequent intervals throughout the cooking process instead of dumping it all in at once. This technique will give you a lot more flavor for the same amount of seasoning, giving you tastier food without wasting ingredients.
Always properly measure cooking oil. Make sure you measure out your oil to cut some of the fat that you cook with; do not pour it straight from the bottle. This will give you the ability to know exactly how much oil is going into the pan at a time.
