If you want to use skewers when cooking, remember these helpful hints. Try to buy twisted or other shaped skewers when they are metal, the food will stay on.

A must when cooking is the availability of sharp knives. Only the dull-witted use dull knives, as they are both ineffective and dangerous. When you use a dull knife, you often have to force the blade through whatever you are cutting. Using a sharp knife is much easier and safer.

Do you find yourself throwing away molded fruits a lot? Is it alright to eat fruit after removing the moldy sections? The truth is that a rotten spot often signifies that the whole fruit is bad. Mold goes a lot deeper than you see and it can make you ill.

Fresh apples can be a delicious ingredient for a wide variety of recipes. Apples need to be kept loosely in plastic bags while in your refrigerator or basement because they rot in dry, warm air. Be sure to remove any spoiled apples as soon as you spot them, or the entire batch will end up rotten.

You can reduce the fat and calorie content of regular mashed potatoes by substituting part of the potatoes with mashed cauliflower. This won’t affect the taste but it adds a handful of nutrition. Cauliflower has a kind of bland taste that mixes well with potatoes and the other ingredients in them. Your mashed potato dish will also look the same if you add cauliflower, allowing it to retain its color and texture while taking the calories out of your potatoes.

Fresh Basil

Have you ever wanted to cook a meal using fresh basil? Place some basil in a clean glass. Put enough water into the glass to cover the stems but not the leaves. Keep it on the kitchen counter and it will stay fresh for weeks. If you provide the basil with fresh water, it will eventually root in the water and sprout a new plant. Trim or cut the basil periodically to provide for added growth so you can partake in some fresh basil for a while!

This will help to keep your fruits fresh for much longer. Also, you’ll have certain fruits on hand that can’t be grown during certain periods of the year.

If your a fan of cooking with spices and herbs, make sure they are stored in a dark and cool area in order to keep their flavors. You should never store herbs and spices above a stove or in any other warm location because that will cause them to lose their flavor, and of course you will be out the money.

All good cooks organize their cooking supplies well for the most efficient experience in the kitchen. If they’re not organized, you’ll waste time looking for needed items. Put all the things that are the same in one place. To be more specific, put peanut butter and jelly on the same shelf, since they both serve the same purpose.
